TEXT: Lamentations 5:10-22 (KJV)

10 Our pores and skin was black like an oven due to the horrible famine.

11 They ravished the ladies in Zion, and the maids within the cities of Judah.

12 Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders weren’t honoured.

13 They took the younger males to grind, and the kids fell below the wooden.

14 The elders have ceased from the gate, the younger males from their musick.

15 The enjoyment of our coronary heart is ceased; our dance is become mourning.

16 The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we now have sinned!

17 For this our coronary heart is faint; for this stuff our eyes are dim.

18 Due to the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes stroll upon it.

19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from technology to technology.

20 Wherefore dost thou overlook us for ever, and forsake us so very long time?

21 Flip thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we will be turned; renew our days as of outdated.

22 However thou hast completely rejected us; thou artwork very wroth in opposition to us.

MESSAGE:

Jeremiah has been labelled ‘the weeping man of God’, on account of the elegy he was impressed to put in writing after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians about 600 years earlier than the time of Jesus Christ. Following his shifting literary work recorded within the Previous Testomony because the guide of Lamentations, the world coined the phrase, ‘jeremiad’, to explain any literature that mourns a tragedy. There are few written works that painting the despair and loss Judah suffered by the hands of the enemy.

In our textual content, Jeremiah had repeatedly warned of the dire penalties of the disobedience of his individuals to the legal guidelines of God. He spoke of their revolt and rejection of His methods. Jeremiah delivered the Lord’s stern plea asking them to forsake their apostasy or face the disastrous outcomes of a 70-12 months captivity. They ignored him and threw the Lord’s messenger into jail, threatening to kill him.

Jeremiah didn’t budge. He preached till God’s phrase was fulfilled, with Jerusalem overrun and the nice Temple, razed. He lamented within the wake of the huge spoil and desolation of his compatriots. It’s unimaginable for the recalcitrant sinner to flee divine judgment.

Nonetheless, as he concluded his dirge, Jeremiah requested the loving and compassionate God to place upon His individuals, the spirit of penitence and supplication, so they might ask to return to Him and once more expertise the enjoyment of the times of outdated. The believer ought to not be taught of the mercy of his Redeemer solely after he has been whipped by the satan when he strays into his territory by way of the sin of disobedience.
